Get to know your SOST!
We invite you to get to know some of your orchestra musicians at “SOST On the Town” at 6 p.m. on Thursday, May 7 in the Edison Plaza Lobby. This new concert experience takes the musicians out of the concert hall for an evening of great music, tasty treats from Green Light Kitchen and interesting conversation. The SOST Brass Quintet will perform music from Bach to the Beatles while giving you a behind the scenes look at the life of a musician.
"The purpose of this concert is to provide a more intimate setting where the audience gets to see the musicians up close and personal," said Brian Shook, SOST principal trumpet and Brass Quintet member. "Sort of like athletes, we feed off of the energy of the crowd. (No foam fingers or beer hats at concerts, please!) Being closer to the audience, we can see their reactions to what we are performing while we are performing -- and vice versa. This creates a wonderful exchange of energy and intimacy that grows throughout the concert!"
The concert will also feature a video presentation weaved throughout the musical selections illustrating each musician’s background and sharing some personal stories.
“At a typical SOST concert, the audience only gets to hear the musicians ‘speak’ through our instruments,” Shook said. “The nature of the intimate setting of this concert allows audience members to mingle with us afterword, providing a natural environment for casual conversation, which is very much encouraged at ‘On the Town.’”
Seating for “SOST On the Town” is limited. Tickets are $10 each. To purchase tickets or get more information, click here or contact the Symphony office at (409) 892-2257.
