We end each season with a grand finale concert of great celebration and inclusive of the entire community. On April 11, our orchestra will be joined by the SOST Chorus and local favorite, guest pianist Philippe Bianconi for a performance not to be missed.

Bianconi returns to the Julie Rogers Theatre stage to dazzle the audience with his artistry and amazing command over the piano. The unique twist for this concert is that he will perform two works: Beethoven’s “Choral Fantasy” and Rachmaninoff’s Piano Concerto No. 3, which is a rare feat for any pianist.

“Philippe is a wonderful collaborator,” said Maestro Chelsea Tipton, II. “He makes the orchestra’s involvement more of a conversation rather than it being a shadow to the piano.”

Rachmaninoff’s Piano Concerto No. 3 is one of the most well-known piano concertos and also one of the most technically challenging pieces ever written in the standard classical repertoire.

Beethoven’s “Choral Fantasy” is a work that is not performed often but has a close kinship to his Ninth Symphony in sound and character. The SOST Chorus, under the direction of Dr. James Han, will lend their voices to this brilliant finale.

Sponsored by Rosine McFaddin Wilson.
