DESCRIPTION:Classic Series I\nBach Brandenburg Concerto No. 3\, BWV 1048\, G Major  \nGrieg Holberg Suite\, op. 40  \nDvorak Wind Serenade\, op. 22\, d minor \nSymphonic music often comes to us in a variety of presentations\, whether while watching a movie\, hearing it in the concert hall\, or even part of a television commercial.  The end results are quite similar; they create an ambience that helps tell a story.  Our first concert presents three different pictures or scenarios. What a great way of illustrating our music to you! \nAs a season opener\, this line up of compositions might seem underwhelming\, although spirited and warm with intent!  Please understand that our revisions have an additional program in mind\, to comply with the safety of containing the spread of the Covid-19 virus.  Over the course of the season\, the size of the orchestra will grow progressively larger so that we can protect our musicians and guest artists. \nThe Brandenburg concerti were related to themes from previously written concerti of Bach\, just orchestrated for a variety of smaller or chamber ensembles. The third concerto was such a setting allowing for spacious assembly of instruments.  It is a spirited dance-like structure with the middle movement seeming like an improvisatory cadenza\, resolving to yet another dance. \nGrieg wrote his Holberg suite originally as a piano suite then translated it to a string orchestration. A master of historical composition\, Grieg uses 18th century dance forms\, expressed however in 19th century language. To showcase the virtuosity of SOST’s wind section\, Maestro Tipton features Dvorak’s charming suite of old-world dances illustrating a combination of aristocracy and common folk styles.  A concert to welcome back our audience with a variety of musical styles! \nDue to the Julie Rogers Theatre not being open yet\, this event will be a Live Stream event.
