SUMMARY:“The Carnival of the Animals” with Shangri La Gardens
DESCRIPTION:Join Shangri La Gardens\, the Symphony of Southeast Texas\, and the Lutcher Theater for a virtual learning opportunity where music meets nature.  Featuring The Carnival of the Animals by Camille Saint-Saëns\, we engage our active listening skills to find the similarities between the sounds of music and Mother Earth. Through this lesson we integrate the arts and sciences\, discovering the many characters of nature and animals that can be replicated through music. \nThis two-part video series features a follow-along classroom booklet designed to keep your students engaged\, while Maestro Tipton leads the Symphony of Southeast Texas through this exciting piece. Critical thinking skills will be utilized and practiced\, as the animals featured in Camille Saint-Saëns’ The Carnival of the Animals are compared to the animals found at Shangri La Gardens. \nBoth videos can be accessed below. We look forward to bringing the Symphony of Southeast Texas and Shangri La Gardens into your classroom! \nThe Carnival of the Shangri La Gardens Animals classroom booklet can be previewed at the bottom of the page. \n  \n  \nPart 1: The Carnival of the Animals by Camille Saint-Saëns performed by SOST\n \nPart 2: The Carnival of the Shangri La Gardens Animals\n \n  \nThe Carnival of the Shangri La Gardens Animals classroom booklet can be downloaded/previewed below. \nDownload | PDF \nShangri La Booklet\n  \n

SUMMARY:Youth Education Concert
DESCRIPTION:Music and Nature\n \nSmith                        Star Spangled Banner \nBeethoven               Symphony No. 6\, Movement 4 \nHaydn                       Piano Concerto No. 11 in D major\, 1st movement \nSeth Weeks\, piano \nKorsakov                  Flight of the Bumblebee \nDe Falla                    The Ritual Fire Dance \nHummel                   Trumpet Concerto in E-flat major \nEthan Williamson\, trumpet \nRossini                      William Tell Overture \n  \nThe sounds of the natural world have been an integral part of our culture. All the world is sound or vibration. From bees humming to the sound of a rainstorm\, the same vibrations that make music surround us in nature. Great composers often used nature as the backdrop for their works\, such as Vivaldi’s Four Seasons or Johannes Brahms c minor Symphony. \nIn our education program\, we will look at how various composers use the sounds of the orchestra to manifest the images of nature. The William Tell Overture takes us on through a storm\, to pastures of fields ending with the ever-familiar Lone Ranger gallop of horses at the end. Beethoven Pastoral Symphony looks at the thunderstorm elements in detail\, and the Ritual Fire Dance was used to worship the Fire God where Gypsies would form a large circle around their campfire at midnight to dance. Flight of the Bumble Bee is\, of course\, just the Flight of the Bumble Bee! \nOur concerto winners from 2020 and 2021 will be joining the orchestra. \nSeth Weeks\, 2020 Concerto winner\nEthan Williamson\, 2021 Concerto winner\n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \nThis year\, the concert will be videoed and released to area schools and educators. You may also come here to watch the video. \n \nSee below for the teacher’s guide. \n2021 Musician Videos- click below \nMusician Profiles 2021 – YouTube \nDownload | PDF \nTeacher's Guide
