DESCRIPTION:Classic Series IV\nFanfare and Fortitude\nApril 1\, 2023 7:30PM\n \n  \nStrauss              Vienna Philharmonic Fanfare \nRespighi           Ancient Airs and Dances No. 2 \nOrff                    Carmina Burana \nfeaturing the SOST Chorus\, Lamar University Choir\, Les Petites Voix (a children’s choir) and soloists Abigail Dueppen\, Blas Canedo-González and Steven Brennfleck \n  \nChelsea Tipton II\, Conductor \n  \nTickets: $33-$57 \nGet Tickets \n  \nConcert Sponsor: \n      \nGuest Artist Sponsor: Sandra Clark \n  \nRichard Strauss began our season with his Rosenkavalier Suite and kicks off the final concert with his Fanfare for the Vienna Philharmonic.  One of their favorite composers\, this short piece was composed and dedicated to the orchestra to begin the grand ball that raised funds for the musicians’ pension fund.  A triumphant work that announced the matron of the ball\, it has been played every year since!  While we don’t have a ball\, SOST is pleased to conclude this Anniversary season with a majestic fanfare\, followed by the grandest of symphonic pieces\, Carmina Burana. \nBefore the heavens open in our last epic of the season\, Maestro Tipton treats us to gentler symphonic movements of lute dances from Respighi’s Ancient Airs and Dances.  Orchestrated to give a great contrast from fanfares to the bombastic Carmina\, it is a delicate touch that calls some of the lighter movements of the Orff to mind. \nSo\, we end our celebration with one of the grandest productions of Symphonic literature. Carl Orff brings to the stage a full complement of instruments\, choirs and vocal soloists; clearly giving our SOST a chance to shine and send us home very grateful that these 70 years resulted in enjoying great music\, whether it is soft and gentle\, exciting or bombastic\, yet it is all harmonious. \nAbigail Dueppen\nBlas Canedo-González\n  \nSteven Brennfleck\n  \nLes Petites Voix

SUMMARY:Youth Education Concert
DESCRIPTION:The youth education concert will be on April 12. \n \nSOST invites you and your students to a FREE concert exploring notable images from history and how they relate to patterns\, structure\, and form in music! \nStudents will learn how music is comprised of patterns\, the relationship between different elements of a particular work\, and how that form is an essential aspect of music and art. Come explore how music plays a part in the visual arts as well as mathematics.\nThe concert will include music from Berlioz\, Britten\, Beethoven\, Mozart\, Ginastera\, and Rossini. \nMaestro Chelsea Tipton II will lead the SOST in a live concert at the Julie Rogers Theatre. The concert will also feature our 2023 Concerto Competition winner! \nThis program is created for fifth grade students utilizing many of the key elements included in STARR testing\, but all ages are welcome.
