One question I am often asked is, “How do you decide what the orchestra will perform for Southeast Texas?”
The answer is that building a season is both an art and a puzzle. Long before the first rehearsal begins, we spend months discussing repertoire, guest artists, special projects, and the overall experience we want audiences to have throughout the year. We have a number of committees that meet, which is why I wanted to live here in Beaumont. To get the flavor of the region.
As we planned the 2026–27 season, we worked to balance artistic ambition with practical realities. We want to perform great masterworks, feature outstanding guest artists, and present exciting pops programs, all while being responsible stewards of the orchestra’s resources. Every programming decision involves weighing artistic value, audience appeal, orchestra personnel, budget considerations, and community impact.
We also think carefully about variety. A successful season should offer something for everyone, from beloved classics and powerful orchestral works to entertaining pops concerts and unique musical experiences that bring new audiences into the concert hall.
Most importantly, we ask a simple question: “Will this create a memorable experience for our audience?” Great concerts are about more than the music on the page. They are about bringing people together, creating connections, and sharing moments that audiences will remember long after the final note.
The 2026–27 season reflects many months of thoughtful planning, collaboration, and excitement. I believe it offers something special for both longtime patrons and first-time concertgoers, and I look forward to sharing it with you.
