Celebrate the vibrant sound of America at the symphony’s spectacular season finale, Voices of American Traditions. This inspiring program brings together unforgettable melodies, powerful orchestral music, and the extraordinary voices of the SOST Chorus and acclaimed baritone Reginald Smith Jr.

The evening opens with George Gershwin’s sparkling Overture to “Girl Crazy,” a lively showcase of the composer’s irresistible melodies and the energy of 1930s American popular music. The journey continues with Zhou Tian’s thrilling Transcend, which captures the pulse of the Transcontinental Railroad while honoring the Chinese workers whose extraordinary efforts helped connect the nation.

The concert reaches its emotional finale with selections from Gershwin’s groundbreaking Porgy and Bess. Featuring the SOST Chorus as well as vocalists Dejah Watts and Reginald Smith Jr., this landmark work blends opera, Broadway, jazz, blues, and popular music to create a uniquely American sound.

From exuberant rhythms to soaring voices, Voices of American Traditions is a joyful celebration of America’s musical heritage and a spectacular way to close the symphony’s 74th season.
