The Symphony of Southeast Texas is pleased to announce our first Pops show of the 66th season. Our concert on October 6, 2018 at 7:30pm brings the fantastic music of Louis Armstrong and Ella Fitzgerald to life!
One of America’s greatest musical claims to fame is the Great American Songbook. An unofficial collection of songs and genres, popular song created an “American atmosphere” during the 20s, 30s and 40s to sooth our psyches. None were greater champions than Ella Fitzgerald and Louis Armstrong. Both artists, individually and collectively, had an extensive list of recordings that were the soundtrack of this era. Together they got Americans through the eras of the depression, war, and post war.
Tonight’s program, through the talents of trumpeter Byron Stripling (aka Satchmo) and Carmen Bradford (as Lady Ella), takes us on a musical tour of songs like “A-Tisket A-Tasket,” “I Can’t Give You Anything but Love,” “Basin Street Blues,” and those favorite tunes of the Gershwins. Our guests share an authentic collection of arrangements for the duo with our SOST that will have you tapping your feet to Bill Bailey, and maybe even crooning “Our Love Is Here to Stay” as you leave the Julie.
Please join us Saturday, October 6, 2018 at 7:30pm at the Julie Rogers Theatre for Pops Series I. The amazing show could not be possible without a grant from the National Endowment of the Arts, as well as generous contributions from Mercedes-Benz of Beaumont and Hancock Whitney. Sponsors like this help the Symphony of Southeast Texas play a role in the education, entertainment, and cultural enrichment of all residents of Southeast Texas.
