We are excited to be featuring one of our exceptional orchestra members for this concert.
Violist Whitney Bullock has been with SOST for over 10 years. In addition to her extensive freelancing in the Houston area, she also works as the Education and Outreach Director for the Apollo Chamber Players with fellow violinist, Matthew Detrick. The viola has a beautiful, round, resonant sound that is superbly featured in the Suite for Viola and Orchestra by Ralph Vaughan Williams.
Opening the concert is the ever familiar Barber of Seville Overture by Rossini. The familiar strains may take you back to your childhood watching the Warner Bros. cartoons featuring Bugs Bunny. Remember the classic “The Rabbit of Seville?”
Rounding out our classics concert will be Mozart’s charming and bucolic, Symphony No. 39. Mozart lived a short life, and during the time that he composed this masterpiece, he was going through significant personal struggles. The work is beautifully lyrical with autumnal tones– perfect for this time of year. I look forward to seeing you at the Julie!
