What a strange phenomenon we are experiencing in SETX and around the globe. All arts organizations, museums, orchestras, dance companies, and schools are trying to endure the challenges of this pandemic virus and return to their usual schedules. Our mission is to provide great symphonic music to our community yet we must abide by government guidelines and be creative as we can.
We are hoping to return on June 27th at the Jefferson Theatre, with our “A Renewal of Spirit” concert featuring Aaron Copland’s great Symphony No. 3. It is a work written at the end of WW II expressing a positive, affirmative spirit and the return to America’s greatness. What a timely coincidence!
In addition to our performance in June, the following week we will celebrate the Fourth of July with the City of Beaumont for our annual concert at the Event Centre. This is a fun evening of music, food, and fellowship. We are pleased to be part of the City’s celebration.
Music education is a core part of our mission here at SOST, and while we can’t perform our traditional concerts for schools, we are using technology to partner with BISD making educational modules featuring members of the orchestra demonstrating their instrument and talking about their musical journey.
These are tough times for sure, yet with a strong spirit, we will come back stronger than ever. Please, everyone, take care of yourself and one another.
