The Symphony of Southeast Texas is pleased to once again team up with Motiva Enterprises to present our second annual “The Sounds of Christmas” in Port Arthur on Monday, December 9, 2019 at 7:00 pm. Under the direction of Maestro Chelsea Tipton, this concert will take place at the Woodrow Wilson Early College High School and is free to the public thanks to a generous grant from Motiva.
This year, the concert filled with holiday favorites, will have a special sparkle as we feature the talents of Carmen Bradford, vocal soloist with the Count Basie Orchestra. Ms. Bradford will sing special arrangements of songs from one of her mentors, Ella Fitzgerald, as well as direct the audience in a holiday sing a-long. As an extra special gift to Port Arthur, Ms. Bradford has agreed to work with selected high school students from Port Arthur, giving them a private coaching lesson on the fundamentals of jazz singing. Executive Director, Doug Fair mentioned “SOST is pleased to share the talents of guest artists with area youth when scheduling and funding permits. It’s one of the ways we can give back to our growing community.”
The Sleigh Ride piece will feature assistance from special attendees. Port Arthur ISD Superintendent, Dr. Mark Porterie, will serve as Guest Conductor and Lee Poulter, HR Manager at Motiva, will serve as Guest Sleigh Bell Percussionist.
