Due to the circumstances from the latest weather issues in southeast Texas, the Symphony of Southeast Texas regrets to announce we must postpone our February 20 concert.
We will perform our Classic Series III concert, American Musical Soundscapes, on March 13, 2021 with one concert at 7:30pm at the Beaumont Civic Center. We will also offer a live stream version of the concert. All ticket holders will receive new tickets for this new show.
The majority of the musicians of SOST live in the Houston area. With issues involving power, water and transportation, we feel it is in the best interest of all that we postpone.
The concert will stay the same, opening with a salute to America! Once again, three vantage points are illustrated through a diverse musical journey. We will begin with the internationally famous waltz king, Johann Strauss II, who was famous for writing dance like pieces reflecting his travels. His Greeting to America salutes our homeland and begins our concert.
What could be more American and dance-inspired than Aaron Copland’s Appalachian Spring, a salute to Martha Graham’s modern ballet, featuring the music of the famous mountain range. No gifts were simpler, yet elegant, than this American homage.
The opening measures of George Gershwin’s Rhapsody in Blue have become a musical icon describing the highlights of his beloved NYC. Blues, jazz, tender melodies all bring us back to Broadway in Manhattan. Our soloist, Gabriela Martinez, is quickly becoming an internationally acclaimed pianist. Hailing from Venezuela, she has won several international prizes, has played with orchestras around the world and has had pieces written for her premiere solo CD, Amplified Soul.
Our deepest thanks go out to our show sponsors, Rosine McFaddin Wilson and Regina Rogers as well as our live stream sponsor, UBS. Sponsors like this help the Symphony of Southeast Texas play a role in the education, entertainment, and cultural enrichment of all residents of Southeast Texas.
