The Symphony of Southeast Texas is proud to continue our 71st season, Majestic Visions. The incredible Maestro Chelsea Tipton II, in his 15th season, will lead your SOST orchestra in a wonderful array of favorites, with some new pieces sure to be future classics. We invite you to join us this season to rediscover your Symphony of Southeast Texas!
Our season finale and fourth Classic Series concert on Saturday, April 6th at the historic Julie Rogers Theatre is titled “Images that Inspire.” The evening begins with Valerie Coleman’s Seven O’Clock Shout, an anthem inspired by the tireless frontline workers during the Covid-19 pandemic, and the heartwarming ritual of evening serenades that brings people together amidst isolation to celebrate life and the sacrifices of heroes.
As tonight’s program continues, the choruses from SOST and Lamar University will join the orchestra on stage beginning with Howard Hanson’s Song of Democracy. Based on the Walt Whitman text, this piece was performed at the inaugural concert for incoming U.S. President Richard Nixon in 1969. Then the choir will continue with John Rutter’s Gloria, a three-part piece in which Rutter uses his brass to splendid and often spectacular effect!
After intermission, Modest Mussorgsky’s Pictures at an Exhibition features an exquisite statement of instrumental solos portraying images as if wandering through an art museum. To coincide with this piece, the Beaumont Camera Club will have an exhibition in the lobby. We are thrilled to partner with this local group to share beautiful artwork!
Our deepest thanks go out to our show sponsor Sandra Clark. Sponsors like this help the Symphony of Southeast Texas play a role in the education, entertainment, and cultural enrichment of all residents of Southeast Texas.
