The Symphony of Southeast Texas proudly announces a Christmas concert, “Home for the Holidays,” on December 8, 2019 at 3pm. The Julie Rogers Theatre will come to life with all the sounds of the holidays. The SOST orchestra, under the direction of Maestro Chelsea Tipton II, will perform an hour-long program full of all your favorite holiday music.
Our guest artist for the concert will be none other than the 2019 Grammy nominee, Carmen Bradford. Born in Austin, TX, and raised in Altadena, CA by legendary jazz musicians/parents, Bobby Bradford and Melba Joyce, Carmen is actually the third generation of the Bradford legacy. At age 22, she was discovered by William “Count” Basie and hired as lead vocalist- a position she held for nine years. Since then, her musical associates read like a Who’s Who of jazz greats including Wynton and Ellis Marsalis, Tony Bennett, Willie Nelson, Frank Sinatra, Joe Williams, George Benson and many others. For the past 15 years, she has returned to her love of Big Band singing, rejoining her friends with the Count Basie Orchestra.
We hope you join us for an afternoon that promises to be full of lovely seasonal music, a sing-along, a chance to visit with Santa and more surprises! Cookies and hot chocolate will be served in the lobby immediately following the show.
Many thanks go to the generous sponsorships from American Valve and Hydrant and Hancock Whitney for helping SOST share our Christmas spirit with all of Southeast Texas.
