The Symphony of Southeast Texas is thrilled to announce the results of the 2020 Concerto Competition.
The first-place winner is pianist Seth Weeks of Nederland. He won the prize of $750 and the honor of playing his competition piece, Concerto in D by Franz Joseph Haydn, at the Youth Education Concert on April 15, 2020.
The second-place winner is Michael Hung of Beaumont. He won the prize of $500 playing flute to Bizet’s Carmen Fantasy.
The third-place winner is Tristen Balsano of Port Neches-Groves. He won the prize of $250 playing the flute to Doppler’s Fantasie Pastorale Hongroise.
We couldn’t be happier for these young musicians as the embark on their musical journeys.
The Symphony of Southeast Texas, embarking on its 67th season, is a regional, professional orchestra based in Beaumont, Texas. The Symphony performs a number of subscription concerts, educational programs and other concerts throughout Southeast Texas each year. SOST’s home base is the Julie Rogers Theatre in downtown Beaumont. The orchestra is composed of local musicians from Beaumont vicinity, as well as many musicians from the Houston and Lake Charles areas. Selections from the upcoming concerts include everything from Brahms and Hanson to Elgar and Copland. Bring the whole family out to see the Wizard of Oz on-screen with music by the SOST orchestra.
