The Symphony of Southeast Texas is proud to announce our new season, Playing it Forward. The incomparable Maestro Chelsea Tipton II will lead your SOST orchestra in a wonderful array of favorites, with some new pieces sure to be future classics. We are excited about returning to the Julie Rogers Theatre for our concert season. Maestro Tipton and SOST are thrilled to welcome concert goers to a return to live music and the enthusiasm SOST audiences always provide.
The season opener starts with our first Classic Series concert on September 18, 2021. Fate and Fantasy includes the epic works of Sibelius’ Finlandia and Tchaikovsky’s Symphony No. 4. The amazing violinist Andrew Sords will join us for Bruch’s Scottish Fantasy. Having a celebrated career as a soloist on 4 continents and collaborating with over 300 orchestras, Sords has been cited for combining visceral virtuosity with a ravishing tone. Fate and fantasy, both musical expressions of the human spirit.
The first Pops concert, From the Heart, will be October 16 when NBC’s America’s Got Talent finalist, Daniel Emmet, joins the orchestra for an evening full of a wide range of expression that spans musical genres from rock to pop to opera, all the while singing in seven languages! It is an experience that will leave you absolutely breathless. Redefining what it means to be a crossover artist, Daniel possesses an addictive, fresh voice that is unique; bursting with operatic power, yet mellowed by pop sensitivity, that once heard is never to be forgotten.
Our October 30th Classic Series II concert, will leave you breathless as well. Symphony for Our World combines National Geographic’s stunning visuals with an original score by Emmy- and BAFTA-nominated Bleeding Fingers Music, performed by your Symphony of Southeast Texas. Beginning in the depths of our mysterious seas, we emerge onto stormy shores, take in vast landscapes and evolving eco-systems, rise to desolate mountain peaks and soar to great heights with stunning views of the pale blue dot we call home. This moving experience takes audiences on a breathtaking journey through a variety of wondrously wild ecosystems, each accompanied by its own orchestral movement and including intimate portraits of wildlife. Awe-inspiring music and visuals tell a story of the complex yet fragile nature of the fascinating and wondrous ecosystems that allow us to survive and thrive together. Symphony for Our World creates a chorus of celebration in honor of Earth, reminding us why it’s vitally important to conserve, protect, and preserve all of our planet’s resources. It is a powerful, and timely, tribute to the beauty and wonders of our world.
On November 14th, Symphony at Shangri La returns! Spend a delightful afternoon on the Great Lawn among the beautiful plantings, flowers and great friends as you are entertained by your SOST. Our popular Symphony at Shangri La concert will feature baritone Blas Canedo-Gonzalez and Maestro Tipton has a great variety of popular and movie classics picked out to enhance this beautiful setting. Bring a blanket, picnic dinner or just come out with your favorite chair and enjoy the music and the beautiful gardens!
Join us December 5 when the SOST orchestra will ring in the holiday season with our Home for the Holidays concert. The Southeast Texas Starlettes, with their beautiful four-part harmonies, will add a humorous twist to the standard Christmas standards in their portion of the concert, “Waiting for Santa.” These four young ladies first appeared at the Beaumont Community Players and include Genevieve Brassard, Lauren Millner-Sanchez, Lydia Seay, and Lara Strawther. Their good-natured humor and light-hearted wit will have you singing all the old Christmas standards. We hope you will join us for an afternoon that promises to be filled with great holiday favorites and a chance to visit with Santa!
We return in 2022 with our Classic Series III concert on February 19. The award-winning pianist, Claire Huangci, will return with Schumann’s Piano Concerto. You may remember her performance in February of 2018 when she dazzled the audience with her captivating talent. Also featuring Brahms’ Symphony no. 3, the evening will be full of Passion: Struggle and Resolution.
Our second Pops concert on March 5th will have you dancing in your seat and tapping your toes to the beat! Radiance, the Ladies of Motown, pay tribute to the music of the Supremes, Martha & the Vandellas, and the Marvelettes. The costuming, the choreography, the harmonies, the energy and excitement are second to none and make for a spectacular show transforming the audience back to an era of music that formed a major cornerstone of American music of the 60s and 70s.
We are pulling out all the stops for our season finale on April 2, Glory and Grandeur. The evening will include Mozart’s Requiem, his final composition and one of his finest. Our “Glory” is celebrated as SOST is joined by four outstanding soloists, the Beaumont Interfaith Choral Society and our SOST chorus. A collaboration fitting for such a grand piece. Russell Peck’s signature piece The Glory and the Grandeur is a showcase work featuring three of SOST’s excellent percussionists, Jamie Strawther, Justin Collazo and Francisco Perez, playing on a variety of instruments. The movements feature all three percussionists on separate instruments, then teaming up on one marimba before the orchestra joins them on the cadenza that began the piece. And what better way of ending a grand concert than the epic work of one of the most celebrated romantic composers, Maurice Ravel. In this, his longest work, the three movements reflect the dances originally written for Sergei Diaghilev’s hour-long ballet Daphnis et Chloe. A grand epic for a night of Glory.,
Season tickets are available now through October 30th. Prices range from $120-$275 depending on where you sit. This includes the 4 Classic Series concerts and the 2 Pops concerts.
Single tickets go on sale September 1 and prices range from $32-$55 for the Classic Series and $34-$75 for the Pops Series concerts. The holiday concert will be $30 for adults and $20 for seniors and students. The Symphony at Shangri La are available now at $10-$35 with children 6 and under for free.

The Symphony of Southeast Texas, embarking on its 69th season, is a regional, professional orchestra based in Beaumont, Texas. The Symphony performs a number of subscription concerts, educational programs and other concerts throughout Southeast Texas each year. SOST’s home base is the Julie Rogers Theatre in downtown Beaumont. The orchestra is composed of local musicians from the Beaumont vicinity, as well as many musicians from the Houston and Lake Charles areas.
