The Symphony of Southeast Texas proudly announces a Christmas concert, “Home for the Holidays,” on December 2, 2018 at 3pm. The Julie Rogers Theatre will come to life with all the sounds of the holidays. The SOST orchestra, under the direction of Maestro Chelsea Tipton, will perform an hour-long program full of all your favorite holiday music. Guest artists include Lance Orta, Tenor and Jimmy Simmons, Tenor Saxophone.
The holiday concert will also include several local choirs. Under the direction of James Han, the SOST Chorus will be in attendance, as well as the Calder Baptist Choir, directed by W. Chris Richter. The Memorial High School Choir, under director Lonnie Reed, will also be performing with the orchestra. The afternoon promises to be full of lovely seasonal music, a sing-a-long, a chance to visit with Santa and more surprises! Cookies and hot chocolate will be served in the lobby immediately following the show.
Many thanks go to the generous sponsorships from American Valve and Hydrant and Mobiloil Credit Union for helping SOST share our Christmas spirit with all of Southeast Texas.
The Symphony of Southeast Texas, embarking on its 66th season, is a regional, professional orchestra based in Beaumont, Texas. The Symphony performs a number of subscription concerts, educational programs and other concerts throughout Southeast Texas each year. SOST’s home base is the Julie Rogers Theatre in downtown Beaumont. The orchestra is composed of local musicians from the Beaumont vicinity, as well as many musicians from the Houston and Lake Charles areas. Selections from the upcoming Classics Series include Grieg’s Piano Concerto, with Claire Huangci, Rachmaninoff’s Symphony no. 2, Faure’s choral masterpiece, Requiem and Ravel’s Daphne and Chloe Suite No. 2. The final Pops concert will feature The Texas Tenors.
The holiday concert will also feature a wonderful group of choruses from our region. Leading us in song will be our own SOST chorus, wonderfully prepared by Dr. James Han. Adding their voices will be The Calder Baptist Church choir, under the direction of W. Chris Richeter, as well as the students from Port Arthur’s Memorial High School Chorus, led by Lonnie Reed.
