Starting a new symphony season is always exciting. While audiences look forward to opening night, there is an incredible amount of activity behind the scenes to get the orchestra ready.
Musicians receive their music and begin preparing weeks in advance. Our library prepares scores and parts, bowings are coordinated, rehearsal schedules are developed, guest artists are confirmed, and our staff works through countless logistical details. As Music Director, I spend many hours studying scores and developing a rehearsal plan so that when our musicians come together, we can make the most of every minute.
And then comes my favorite part: the first rehearsal. After months of planning and studying, suddenly 70 musicians are in the room and the music comes alive. There is nothing quite like hearing that sound for the first time.
This season at the Symphony of Southeast Texas, we have an exciting mix of great orchestral music, outstanding guest artists, pops, holiday favorites, and special experiences designed to bring our community together. Whether you love the classics or simply enjoy a great night of live entertainment, there is something for you.
Most of all, we want every concert to be an experience that reminds us why there is still nothing quite like hearing a live orchestra.
We are ready. The musicians are ready. Now all we need is you!
See you at the Symphony! Go SOST!
