The Symphony of Southeast Texas is pleased to announce our first POPS concert of the 67th season, The Piano Man Meets the Rocket Man. Our performance on October 5, 2019 is all about Classic Rock ‘n Roll!
Musical genres, whether classical, romantic or rock, are too frequently categorized and subsequently performed within specific boxes. Can you imagine the music of Mozart or Bach appearing with the likes of Elton John or Billy Joel? Well, get ready to tear down those walls as tonight’s concert will demonstrate how musical styles often influence other styles, across centuries and musical periods.
The music of tonight’s legends has roots in the timeless classics: “Don’t Let the Sun Go Down on Me” and “The Piano Man” all have a structure taken from classical music. Both Sir Elton and Mr. Joel’s piano playing demonstrate classical training in their early years. So, while you rock out to “Saturday Night’s Alright” and other hits, know that their roots share a common language.
Now celebrating their 23rd anniversary, Jeans ‘n Classics is a star performer in the arts and entertainment scene. While most definitely not a tribute act, Jeans ‘n Classics faithfully interprets the music of legendary rock and pop albums and artists, with their own special and signature flair. Tonight, SOST presents Jean Meilleur and John Regan from this touring company. They are a company of musicians who understand orchestral culture and are committed to helping build younger, loyal audiences for symphony orchestras across North America.
Please join us Saturday, October 5, 2019 at 7:30pm at the Julie Rogers Theatre for POPS Series I. This amazing show could not be possible without the support of our Concert Sponsors, Sandra Clark and Total and our Guest Artist Sponsor, Hancock Whitney. Sponsors like this help the Symphony of Southeast Texas play a role in the education, entertainment, and cultural enrichment of all residents of Southeast Texas.
