To begin our fantastic journey this season, we will explore the Roman countryside through Hector Berlioz’s “Roman Carnival Overture,” a dynamic piece of music intended as the prelude to one of the French composer’s operas. Sure to grab your attention next and rumble your seat is Russell Peck’s “The Glory and the Grandeur,” a dynamite concerto for percussion trio that will feature the SOST’s own Gary Parks, James Strawther, and Justin Collazo.
But the Roman journey doesn’t end there. Respighi’s “Pines of Rome” travels through different pine trees along the Apian Way at different times of day. This colorful symphonic poem will incorporate the sounds of the orchestra with off-stage musicians for a complete surround sound experience. According to Maestro Chelsea Tipton, “This concert is gonna peel the paint off the walls of the Julie Rogers Theatre.”
